CHELSEA

I write a monthly style section for my local newspaper. Each month I choose someone from the area I live in to be featured in the ‘Style of the Month’ section. While I have found some fabulously dressed women in this tiny little town, it has been hard to find someone who is really unique, against the grain, and truly dedicated to their own sense of style.

Then I started seeing this young lady around town. Chelsea is usually on a skateboard, bike, or hanging out at a local coffee shop drawing. Often she’s rocking out in thigh-high socks, a frock from her mum’s eco-shop, Prudence, and a totally new hair-style.

As a self-described ‘high-school drop-out and wandering fruit-picker’ Chelsea described her style to me as ‘Bob Dylan, with a little bit of pantomime, and a homeless edge’. Her passions are ‘grapefruit, balancing things on (her) head, living, and whistling’.

I was lucky enough to get these pictures of her the night after she had dyed her hair (and eyebrows) bright green.

This girl gives me hope for small town style. I think she is awesome.
